NAME sdtmedia_prot - The CDE Removable Media Protection Utility SYNOPSIS sdtmedia_prot [-w] [-d] raw_device DESCRIPTION The sdtmedia_prot is the change protection utility for removable media used within CDE. It provides an easy-to-use interface that allows users to modify the protection applied to a removable medium. It allows the user to select the level of protection for a medium, and enter passwords if required. Removable media support four levels of protection. Disable Protection This allows the user to unprotect the medium. If the medium was previously pro- tected with a password, the user is prompted for that password before the pro- tection is removed. Write Protect Without Password This allows the user to Write protect the medium. No Password is required to access the medium, however writes to the medium are prevented. This protection is the software equivelent of using the write protect tab on floppies. Write Protect With Password This allows the user to Write protect the medium. Writes to the medium are allowed only if the password is entered. Read-Write Protect With Password This prevents any acces to the medium unless the user enters the password. If the user selects protection with a password, a dialog appears prompting them to enter and verify the password. If the user chooses to disable protection on a medium, which previously was password protected, they are prompted to enter the password. FILES /usr/dt/bin/sdtmedia_prot This is the executable for the CDE Media Protection utility. /usr/dt/app-defaults/<LANG>/Sdtmedia_prot This file includes the application defaults for the CDE Media Protection utility. OPTIONS The sdtformat_media utility defines command-line parameters that may be entered to use the utility. -w This instructs sdtmedia_prot to write pro- tect the media without a password. As no user interface is required, the GUI is not displayed and the medium is protected. If the media was previously protected with a password, then the user is prompted for the password and protection is removed. -d This instructs sdtmedia_prot to unprotect the medium. If the medium was previously protected with a password, then a dialog prompting the user for the password appears.
