     sys-suspend - Suspend or shutdown the system and power off

     /usr/openwin/bin/sys-suspend [ -fnxh ] [ -d <displayname> ]

DESCRIPTION
     sys-suspend(1M) provides options to suspend or shutdown  the
     whole system.

     A system may be suspended to conserve power  or  to  prepare
     the  system  for  transport.  The suspend should not be used
     when performing any hardware reconfiguration or replacement.

     In case  of  suspend,  the  current  system  state  will  be
     preserved  until  a  resume operation is performed (the next
     power on).

     On a resume in the windows environment, the system brings up
     lockscreen  to  ensure  that  only the authorized person has
     access to the system.  In  a  non-windows  environment,  the
     user will be prompted for password.

     It is possible that when devices or processes are performing
     critical  or  time  sensitive  operations (such as real time
     operations) the system  may  fail  to  suspend.   When  this
     occurs, the system will remain in its current running state.
     Messages reporting the failure will be displayed on the con-
     sole.  Once the system is successfully suspended, the resume
     operation will always succeed  barring  external  influences
     such as hardware reconfiguration or the like.

     In case of shutdown, rc0  scripts  are  run,  processes  are
     killed,  pending data is written to the disks, and system is
     turned off.

OPTIONS
     -f   Force suspend.  This should be used  with  care.  Using
          this option causes the system to force all processes to
          stop.  This option should not be used during unattended
          operations.

     -n   Disable selection.  This flag  disables  the  selection
          popup dialog at the invocation time.

     -x   Disable lockscreen.  This flag disables  the  execution
          of lockscreen at resume time.

     -h   Change the default from suspend to shutdown.
     -d <displayname>
          Connect to the X server specified by displayname.  For-
          mat of displayname has been described in X11(7).

FILES
     /etc/default/sys-suspend file for setting  a  default  value
                              for   the  PERMS  variable.   PERMS
                              determines who are allowed  to  use
                              this command. Allowed values are:
            all                           any user can  use  this
                                          command
            -                             nobody  except   super-
                                          user  can use this com-
                                          mand
            <user1, user2, etc.>          a  user  in  this  user
                                          list  or super-user can
                                          use this command
            console-owner                 a  user  who  owns  the
                                          system  console  device
                                          node or super-user  can
                                          user    this    command
                                          (default)

NOTES
     Lockscreen on resume can be disabled by default. The follow-
     ing  line  needs  to  be  added  to the user's .Xdefaults or
     .OWdefaults file:

          Syssuspend*xlock:   False

     If xlock(1) is used for lockscreen functionality,  its  mode
     defaults  to life. This can be changed by adding the follow-
     ing line to the user's .Xdefaults or .OWdefaults file:

          Syssuspend*xlockmode:    <xlockmode>
